Character: Types and Archetypes. Wants, Flaws and Character Arcs.

Dive deep into character craft, exploring how to build strong protagonists, understanding character arcs and their importance, and examining the types and archetypes that populate successful screenplays.

Week 4

The Holy Trinity: Concept, Genre and Tone

Explore how concept, genre, and tone interlock as the Holy Trinity, helping you identify what type of movie you’re writing and define your target audience.

Story Structure: The Big Kahuna. It’s your best friend. I’ll tell you why.

Plot. Plots and subplots. Story rules and logic. Stakes and the Ticking Clock.

Theme, Dialogue and Scene Construction

Putting It All Together: Getting from Scene to Script

Learn the step by step process from sequence breakdown to polished draft: organizing scenes with fenceposts, creating slug line outlines, adding stage direction and dialogue, then refining through feedback and polish.
